Permanent Swap File
Click on START, then Settings, then CONTROL PANEL and open SYSTEM This will bring up the summary about your system. Begin with a click on performance and then virtual memory. Now click on "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings". You will get a warning why you should not do it. If you are not confident then back out now, else read on. Now before you define the virtual drive go and DEFRAG that drive. Choose the drive that you have just DEFRAGED. In the minimum value box put the value 1.5 X you RAM SIZE. Example : If you have 32MB of RAM then 1.5 X 32 = 48.
In the maximum box put the same value. Click OK to restart. And you have completed the task Small note : If you have plenty of space to spare the you can increase the size of your swap file. This is recommended.
Limit VCache
Windows loads a program called SMARTDRIVE. This allows it to remember common actions to make your computer managed files faster. BUT it uses too much memory in the cache file. This is where we limit it. Click on START and the RUN. Type "sysedit" without the quotes. This will bring up all these boxes the box we want is the SYSTEM.INI Find the area with the tag [vcache]. Now type the following lines so it appears like this : Click on File and then save. Now restart. Task completed
