| British Colombian Wolf | Canis lupus columbianus | One of the biggest wolf species. They may weigh more than 60 kilogram. They live in British Columbia and they are grey or black. |
| Vancouver Island Wolf | Canis lupus crassodon | These wolves furs are grey or black. |
| Cascade Mountains Wolf | Canis lupus fuscus | This is a wolf with a brown fur, and in the past it was called the "brown wolf". We do not know if this wolf still exists. |

| Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf | Canis lupus irremotus | This is quite a big wolf that lives between the Rocky Mountains and Southern-Alberta (Canada). The scientists are not sure if this species became extinct in the USA or not. |
| Labrador Wolf | Canis lupus labradorius | They live in Northern Quebec and Labrador, their fur is grey or white. |
| Alexander Archipelago Wolf | Canis lupus ligoni | This species is quite small. The wolves are dark grey or even black. |
| Eastern Timber Wolf | Canis lupus lycaon | This is the species with the biggest circulation area. These wolves live in the USA, even in Florida and Minnesota. Their fur has different colours. |
| Baffin Island Tundra Wolf | Canis lupus manningi | The smallest of the arctic wolves. They live on Baffin Island. |
| Mogollon Mountain Wolf | Canis lupus mogollonensis | This species became extinct. They lived in Arizona and New Mexico, and their fur was dark. |
| Texas Grey Wolf | Canis lupus monstrabilis | This species became extinct, too. These wolves were small and they lived in Texas. |
| Great Plains Wolf or Buffalo Wolf | Canis lupus nubilus | The scientists are not sure if this species became extinct or not. In the past they lived in Canada and North-Texas. |
| Mackenzie Valley Wolf | Canis lupus occidentalis | This species lives in the Mackenzie River Valley and these wolves are very big. Their fur can vary from totally black to white. |
| Alaska Tundra Wolf | Canis lupus tundrarum | Big wolf with a long, white fur. He lives in Alaska. |

| Prairie Wolf | Canis lupus campestris | These wolves are small, grey and they live in the deserts of Asia. |
| Canis lupus hattai | This species lived in Japan, but today there do not live any of these wolves. | |
| Canis lupus hodophilax | These wolves became extinct and lived in Japan, too. | |
| Canis lupus laniger | These wolves live in China, Mongolia. | |
| Gray Wolf | Canis lupus lupus | These wolves lived nearly everywhere in Europe and in Russia. They have quite a dark fur. |
| Canis lupus pallipes | These wolves lived in India and in the Iran. |
But also the dog is a species of the wolves. The scientists call them Canis lupus familiaris. One of the differences between normal wolves and dogs is, that wolves aren’t able to bark. Also the „Dingo“ (Canis lupus familiaris dingo) is a species of the Grey Wolf. These animals are the Aborigines dogs that became wild.
