SGO: SoccerGuide Online is the brainchild of three students, two in Singapore and one in Canada. Joshua Lim, 15, and Yeo Kheng Hui, 15, both studying in Raffles Institution in Singapore, came up with the idea, and soon Kheng Hui's pen pal Raina Boldt, 15, from Canada was drawn into it. Voluntarily, of course.
The three 15-year-olds discussed the project over the Internet -- where communications between Raina and Kheng Hui were concerned anyway. Anything Joshua had to say was relayed through by Kheng Hui.
Kheng Hui is a soccer-crazy 15-year-old who was the first to come up with the idea for this site. When prompted for ideas on a ThinkQuest website, he came up with many, including this one, and after some discussion with his teacher-mentor Miss Fong, and his teammates Joshua and Raina, decided to create SGO. He lives in a condominium on the western side of Singapore. His school, Raffles Institution, is in the central area -- which means a 15-minute trip to school by car every morning.
Joshua is slightly luckier than Kheng Hui in the sense that he lives nearer to school. He is also a soccer-mad teenager, and being blessed with natural agility, great reflexes, speed and good teamwork, he is an exceptional goalkeeper. However, most of the time he plays outfield, and that's where his great soccer vision comes into play. Unerring passes from him can split the defence and allow strikers to have an easy time putting the ball home. He can also dribble down the centre, but he is not too successful at that.
Raina is the one furthest away from the rest. Living in Saskatoon, Canada, she corresponds with Kheng Hui (and just recently) with Joshua. This 15-year-old girl is lucky enough to have had the chance to represent Saskatchewan, her province, in an U-19 national soccer competition. Unfortunately, they lost their opening game 3-0. Having gotten to know Kheng Hui via an Internet e-pal network, she was soon roped in into the ThinkQuest competition to help her new friend with SGO. She is doing the translations to French and Spanish, among other things like some of the skills pages, the drills, and providing pictures for certain pages.
