X-rays involve anything from the smallest investigation-X-ray in the industry (e.g. screws, planes and other particles), art (authenticity check of old paintings), up to humans and animals. While X-rays are harmless to materials, it can be dangerous to humans and animals. After the discovery of the x-ray (8.11.1895) a long time has passed without anybody noticed that radiation can be harmful. The first couple of devices were not properly configured, so that an unnecessary amount of X-rays was released. The X-ray weakens our immunity system because of its radioactive rays, . However, with today's safety devices, we can hardly feel it. The new models are properly aligned, so they produce a minimum radiation, and still they produce a perfect picture. Nevertheless, the radiologist has to leave the room while taking X-rays. However, only 2% of our daily intake of radioactive rays are from medicine. This includes as well x-ray therapies for curing tumors and cancer.
X-ray treatement should not be performed on pregnant women, it should be postponed, if possible, until 8 weeks after the birth. Alternatively nonionizing radiation should be used. If the the X-ray treatement must be done, the dose to the fetus can be minimized with lead shielding. Even if the dose to the fetus is mederately high, the risk of radiation exposure is still smaller than the rate of occurring birth defects, mutations and cancer. A medical physicist can be consulted to estimate the exposure received by the fetus.
Result: We surely must not have any fear.
What does the x-ray weaken?
