ASWAN |
||
For the Ancient Egyptians Aswan was the end of the world, it is where Egypt stops and the Nubia and Sudan begin. Aswan is Egypt's southern most city, and with temperatures in summer reaching 46'C, it has always been a favored winter resort. The city lies on the east bank of the Nile River, and the scenery is extremely beautiful down there. Like Luxor, Aswan has its Pharaonic, Greco-Roman and Islamic sites. It is also home to the historical Elephantine Island, the Botanical Gardens and Egypt's primary source of power, the High Dam. |
