The Mission of USS RAMAGE (DDG 61) is to conduct prompt sustained combat operations at sea, in support of national policy. She is equipped to operate in a high-density, multi-threat environment as an integral member of a carrier battle group or surface action group. In addition to her own self-defense capabilities in air warfare (AW), undersea warfare (USW), and surface warfare (SUW), RAMAGE can effectively provide local area protection to the battle group, surface action group, and other ships.
RAMAGE is equipped with the world's most sophisticated weapon system. She has the AN/SPY-1D phased array radar, which incorporates significant advances in the detection capabilities of the AEGIS Weapons System. Using the SPY-1D and her MK 99 Fire Control System, Ramage can guide her vertically launched Standard Missiles at extended ranges.
RAMAGE is also equipped with the Navy's latest USW and SUW combat systems. Long range land attack cruise missile capability is provided by Tomahawk missiles. Her shorter range Harpoon anti-ship cruise missiles, the 5"/54 caliber gun. and the MK 34 Gun Weapon System complete RAMAGE's SUW package. Finally, RAMAGE's AN/SQQ-89 integrated USW suite, consisting of a Tactical Towed Array Sonar, a hull mounted sonar, and helicopter capabilities, is the most advanced antisubmarine warfare system in the world today.
Powered by four quick-response General Electric LM-2500 Gas Turbine Engines coupled to two controllable, reversible pitch (CRP) propellers, RAMAGE has tremendous maneuverability and a top speed in excess of 30 knots.
Home to a crew of over 300, RAMAGE has most services associated with a small town at sea, including dining, banking, ATM, laundry, post office, and shopping facilities, over 10,000 line items of spare parts, and a barber shop.
A marvel of modern technology and engineering, RAMAGE is a powerful instrument of peace in the service to her nation, capable of sustaining herself at sea for months at a time. RAMAGE is the premier warship designed to carry out the U.S. Navy's mission today and into the next century.
