Enter the World

By the early 90’s the Internet began moving away from the regulated rules of NFSNET (which only allowed the network to be used for educational and research purposes) towards Commercial networks run by regular commercial companies. Computers from other continents began connecting to networks in the US. The Internet as we know it today began to take shape. Companies known as ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) came up which provided internet access to the general public and people with a computer and modem could become a part of this grand network. Initially people dialed into the ISP’s computer and used the Unix shell interface there and ran programs the ISP provided. This gave them text modem access. The Internet really took of with the introduction of SLIP/PPP services. This makes the user’s computer appear to be a regular Internet computer with its own IP address all over a regular phone line. Once ISP’s introduced this service the Internet began to take off and millions of users began connecting to it. The Internet began to be used for Commerce and business in a big way and concepts like E-Commerce and Electronic Shopping came into existence. This is the story of how it all began, read on through our site for lots more on this great mother of all networks.
