In origami there are some steady forms, which represent the certain set of creases. It is accepted to name such patterns as the base forms. Not all models of origami are put from the base forms, but at training origami it is good to know them.

There are rather simple traditional base forms, for example, such as the BOOK FOLD or SHAWL FOLD consisting of one crease. Shawl fold has still names such as a diaper or triangle fold. The following traditional forms are built on above these simple forms.

The BOOK FOLD develops in CUPBOARD FOLD. The SHAWL FOLD develops in KITE BASE. The KITE BASE is the foundation to DIAMOND BASE and FISH BASE.

The more complex forms further follow. For example, folding BLINTZ BASE it is possible to begin either from the BOOK FOLD or from a SHAWL FOLD.

The W-BOAT is very used. It is development of the CUPBOARD FOLD. The w-boat is known still as a catamaran or pig form.

Only two creases and W-BOAT BASE turn to WINDMILL BASE.

The following complex base is called as a BALLOON BASE. It has still name a waterbomb, because the traditional model "waterbomb" begins with it. There are several ways to fold a BALLOON BASE. One of them is submitted in the diagram of a Candy-box, which you can find in Origami Studio.

One of most frequently of used forms is a SQUARE BASE. It is known as well as a basic flower form ('hana-no kihon-kei' in Japanese) or preliminary fold. As all complex forms, SQUARE BASE has some ways of folding. In lessons 8 and 9 the examples of different ways are submitted.

Also it is interesting, that a SQUARE BASE and BALLOON BASE have the same dependence as well as creases "Mountain" and "Valley". If to turn out the SQUARE BASE inside out, the BALLOON BASE will turn out. And on the contrary if to turn out the BALLOON BASE - the SQUARE BASE will turn out. These traditional forms demonstrate one of miracles of origami.

From a SQUARE BASE there is a FRUIT BASE, which is very FRUITful for creation of volumetric berries, vegetables and fruits. It is possible to see examples in a lesson 8. This form so was named by the Shumakovs in their creativity.

The BIRD BASE - well known classical form. From it turns out the famous Crane which on strict accounts more than 200 years old, and in a reality it can be older. This form is very interesting also many models are based on it. For example, Dino in Origami Studio.

The FROG BASE is well known form in origami. Folding of this form will start from FRUIT BASE. The SNAIL BASE follows from a FROG BASE. You can see both these bases in the diagrams a Snail in Origami Studio. The "snail base" so was named by the Shumakov in their creativity.

So, we have considered with you fifteen base forms. We hope, that the acquaintance to them will help you in study of art of origami.
