The tusks.
Certainly
the tusks are the most remarkable feature of a mammoth. The tusks are the front teeth,
changed by a special way, - the incisors. They are kept in a special tube growths of a
skull - teethridges. The tusks of a males are turned up and sideways, the right tusk to
the left, and the left tusk to the right, as if on a direction one to another. The tusks
of mammoths are greater, than tusks of modern elephants. The tusks of the largest males
could reach length of 4-4,5 ì and weight up to 100 kilograms. Their diameter at the
basis is about 18-19 centimetres. A mammoth actively used tusks during all his life for
various works. Therefore the ends of tusks usually were erased on external edge and
sometimes even broke.
