In June 1977 in a valley of stream Kirgilyah under the town Magadan the workers worked by the bulldozer. They removed the thin layers of ground. Suddenly on the depth almost of two meters from a surface a side of frozen young mammoth body has appeared. The works has been stopped. When scientists arrived , the mammoth body already completely thawed out from ground and was transferred by the workers under a shed to protect it from the sun.
  Scientists began to work at once, the mammoth body was transported in institute of paleontology in Moscow. Young mammoth has only one meter in height, without tusks, the wool practically was not saved on his body, it has fallen off under the thawing. But the skin, internal organs, the soft tissues were saved into the ice lens perfectly. It was the first completely saved mammoth body having been investigated with the help of modern scientific methods. Due to this many features of the mammoths structure were investigated, and the circumstances of mammoths death were reconstructed also.
  The young mammoth originally has been named as Dima, likely the name of a small stream Dima, on which he has been found. The scientists of the whole world know it as the Magadan or Kirgilyah mammoth. Just by these names young mammoth is named in the numerous scientific papers and books. But for the visitors of Moscow Paleontology Museum, where has been placed the young mammoth, he still remains as Dima.
