The last Great Glacier.
   During the latest growing of ice near a polar part of the Northern hemisphere of our planet the huge Arctic ice cover was located. It was formed as a result of the union of the North American and Eurasian ice covers in a uniform system.
  The Arctic ice cover consists of a large ice shields, having the form as flat-convex domes, which organized in some places the ice layers of  2 - 3 kilometers height. The whole square of the ice cover was more than 40 millions sq. km. (for the comparison: the square of the Northern America is 24 millions sq. km).
The largest elements of the Arctic ice cover are :

1 Lavrentiev shield with the center over a southwest part of the Hudzon gulf;

2 Karskey shield with the center over the Karskoe sea was extended to all the north of Russian flatness, Western and Average Siberia;

3 Greenland shield;

4 East Siberian shield, covering the Siberian seas, the coast of East Siberia and part of the Chukotka;

5 Icelandic shield.

  Even in  severe Glacial Epoch the climate was constantly changing. The glaciers gradually came on the south, and then again stepped back. The ice cover has reached  maximum power about 20 000 years ago. At this time a maximum height of  ice fields in some places  reached 4 kms and on the place of the cities St.-Petersburg, New York, Oslo, Murmansk and Montreal the height was 1,5 kms.
