The Ice Age.
According to evaluations of  different experts, the Ice Age began from 1,5 about 3,5 million years ago (the most  indicate the average date - 2 million years ago ). The geologists named this stage in the planet history as the Quaternary Age. And sometimes it is named as Anthropogene, from a Greek word "antropos", that means "the Human" .This name appeared because just in this time on the Earth Mankind was developing.
It is accepted to divide The Quaternary Age in two unequal parts. The first and very long part was Pleistocene, and it was purely the Ice Age; the second and very short part was Holocene; this age began only 10 thousand years ago and lasts to the present.
During the Quaternary Age the climate was often changing. The Ice Age proper consisted of  long alternations of temperature ups and downs of warm, stages of growths and decreases of glaciers. The periods of temperature decrease received a title “ The Glacial Epoch”, and the periods of increases of warm named “The Interglacial Epoch”. Their pairs usually named as "Glacial-Interglacial cycles". On the average, each  pair lasts hardly more than 100 thousand years. The Glacial Epoch as a rule were much longer, than the Interglacial Epoch.
For example, the last but one icing on the planet began about 300 thousand years ago. This Glacial Epoch finished approximately 130 -125 thousand years ago. The warm Interglacial Epoch came. The last icing came about 115 thousand years ago, and   finished 10 thousand years ago.
