He roams the seas in freedom...
with no enemies save man.

Fauna means animals. There are countless animals in the ocean. It would be nearly impossible for us to list every animal that has been discovered. However, our goal in this page is to try and show what a diverse population the oceans hold and how amazing each of these animals really is. One of the books we used as a source of information had nearly 850 pages of information on ocean fauna. So, we will discuss several of the more popular animals of the ocean.

First, the extremely popular bottlenosed dolphin. Bottlenosed dolphins are the kind of dolphins that kids would love to swim with. They are very playful. Flipper was a bottlenosed dolphin, and who didn't love Flipper? Male bottlenosed dolphins grow up to 200 (440 lb.) kg and grow to be 3.7 m (12 ft) long. Females are a little smaller. Their beaks are 20 cm (8 in) long. They are found in temperate waters where it is never to hot or too cold. They eat many, many varieties of small fish.

The Great White Sharks are blamed for killing humans, when most of the time it is the bull shark who actually committed the crime. However, between 1916 and 1968, they were 32 attacks. Of those, only 13 were fatal. Most are 3 to 3.5 (10 to 12 ft) long. Some exceed 6 m (20 ft). and 450 kg (1000 lb.) but some weigh twice that. They prefer coastal areas and eat fish, squid, seals, sea lions, and whales.
A manatee is a slow moving sea mammal. There are several species, they vary in length from 2.4 to 3.7 m (8 to 12 ft) long. Manatee's weigh 200 to 600 kg (1,320 lb.). A manatee's closest relative is the elephant! They eat various plants including seaweed and grasses. They 25 to 43 kg (25 to 53 lb.) in just one day! They have no common enemies, but are killed by humans for their meat and body oil. They can also get killed by propellers from boats.

Hammerhead sharks are probably the most bizarre looking. Scientist assume that there head looks as it does do to years of evolution. The shape of their heads make them makes them much better hunters.
Mako sharks are less popular, but very deadly. It seems that there body was made for speed. They are streamlined so the water does not drag on them. It has been clocked at 97 km (60 miles) an hour. Their average length is 2 m (6.5 feet) and they weigh up to 453 kg. They eat fish and squid. The swim in the warm and temperate oceans of the world.

The common puffin is unlike any of the other animals that I have discussed so far. The animal is a bird. It is 29 to 36 cm (11.5 to 14.25 in) tall. It lives in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic coasts of eastern North America and Western Eurasia. This bird's diet consist mainly of fish
