Haydn String Quartet in C, Op.76 no.3 "Kaiser"


III: Minuett. Allegro

This movement feels almost like a breath of fresh air within this quartet. Wedged in amongst more serious movements, the Minuet-Allegro provides a lighthearted several minutes of pure relaxation. Even here, however, Haydn maintains some musical links with other movements. The general melodic shape is similar to that of the first movement. We even have the same rising dotted rhythms - except this time they are reversed, going short-long, short-long, short-long...
