Text: Brahms' first published chamber piece, composed at age 21 (!), but usually performed in his revised version of 36 years later: youthful energy filtered through mature craft and wisdom. (The revision is 25% shorter than the original: maturity is knowing what to leave out...) A really great piece, especially (IMO) the first movement. (Pianists! Play a Brahms Concerto without having to round up a whole orchestra!)
