Argument For The Existence Of Serious Global Warming Problem Sure, everyone knows that global warming does exist but few have the slightest idea of the seriousness of the problem we have today. The signs of us having a very serious problem on our hand are actually very clear: 1) Carbon dioxide, the most important greenhouse gas directly affected by human activities, has increased by nearly 30% since 1700. This is primarily because of deforestation and burning of fossil fuels. Due to this increase in greenhouse gases, over the last 100 years, there has been a 1.1 degrees Fahrenheit increase in the global average temperatures. Furthermore, various research teams from the AT&T Bell Laboratories and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration revealed findings that the global temperature increase correlates with the accumulation of atmospheric carbon dioxide. 2) Glaciers have retreated globally and sea level risen by 10 to 25 cm. All these are in addition to the persistence of the El Nino conditions in the Pacific Ocean which cause severe weather patterns in recent years. 3) The spread of infectious diseases around the world is being connected to the changes in climatic patterns. Instances of the Aedes mosquito, which spread yellow fever, found in altitudes where they usually are unable to survive in and ocean warming triggering algae blooms being linked to cholera outbreaks are reported more often. 4) Proponents of the global warming counteracted with the skeptics' argument of no followed-up increase in global temperatures after 1940 even with an explosion in carbon dioxide levels. They pointed out that this is due to the temporary cooling effect by aerosols and the time lag in the oceans' feedback response. Therefore, without a shadow of a doubt, this means that we definitely have a serious global warming problem right now. |
