Bats are the only mammals that can fly. The Malayan flying fox is the largest bat in the world. Its face resembles that of a fox, that’s how its got its name. Like all bats, it flies with the help of a piece of skin from its fingers to arms. This piece of skin is also used to fan itself when the temperature rises. It has two large eyes which provide effective twilight vision. It uses the more familiar senses of sight and smell to find food.

It lives thoughout the Indo-Pacific region, especially in southern Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, West Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Java and New Guinea. It gathers in large, noisy groups of about 7000 in the tall trees in the forests during the day. Some live in caves and even cities or parks. They look for food in the evening.
