Tamarind trees are found in Southern and Central India, Africa, America and Burma. Tamarind trees grow to be a height of 100' and stay green and lush throughout the year. The fruit of this herb is theTamarind bean; Tamarine. The bean is around 3'' to 6'' long, thick as a "washerwomans finger" and irregular in shape. There are two types of the beans; one is smaller in size, has a red colored pulp when ripe and has smaller seeds, while the other is longer, has a brownish pulp when ripe and has bigger seeds. The former is the type of tamarind that is used in medicine.
