Foreword
The public opinion of the Vietnam War was very unanimous, just like in the other war of Vietnam in the 20th century, the war against the French colonizers, who left a grave memory in the Vietnamese soul. The Vietnamese tasted the captivity, the bitterness of slavery, the humiliation and the deprive of the human rights.
The idea of communism, the unification strengthened the thoughts on. Ho Chi Minh's and the next generation had such a patriotism that we aren't able to imagine. Hanoi managed to make everyone unite on the "one people, one nation" principle in North Vietnam. The fight for the homeland was everyone's business, everyone was enthusiastic if the number of the shot down B-52 raised and nobody fancied to take over. The people gave everything for the soldiers who defended the country and the people's lives. No matter if the rationing failed, if there was no food after waiting hours. Nobody was discontent for such things, everyone went home peacefully. Everything was good this way.
That was the mirror. We see these things with a Vietnamese eye. School books write, the elderly tell, science programs interpret this way. Seldom can we find a person who could give a real image of the war, so strong was the anti-Americanism in the North Vietnamese. Some hates because of the hype, or his relatives passed away by American bombs, shrapnels. And the hatred make man blinded. This feeling was against the US government, soldiers are not blamed since they couldn't help it.
What about the present? The educational system was formed to bring the next generation up, who guaranteedly won't threat the one-party autocracy. Those, who think other way has no place in the country. Although the hatred fades away, it haven't disappeared yet. The Balkan crisis was reported another way on the TV broadcasts of Vietnam in contrast with the ones of Europe or the USA. By the falling apart of the Soviet Union, Hanoi had to work out a different foreign politics. Vietnam is turning to the United States, American investors appear on the market of the Southeast Asian country. The lift of the embargo was a gesture to Vietnam as well.
This part was written to give the visitors a sight of Vietnamese soul. It's the visitor's task to decided if he accepts the view or not.
