H. S. Truman
Harry Spencer Truman was born in 8th May, 1884 in Lamar. He was the eldest in the three children. He was refused because of his being bespectacled when he was a child. Therefore he became engrossed in music and books. Later, he worked in a bank but returned to the rural life at the age of 22 and helped his father in the next 11 years as a farmer. He went on work as a democrat politician afterwards. That was the first step of his political career which raised continuously. In 1919, he came back from the World War I. and was engaged in politics. His uncorrupt, loyal, frank manner made people trust him and became the Senate of Missouri in 1934. In 1945, he was the Vice President in the Roosevelt administration. When Roosevelt deceased, he got the power in 12th April, 1945. Nobody would have thought that he'll ever get this post, furthermore, he'll became a highly respected President, but he did it.
Although he undertook the nuclear strike in Japan, he ended up the World War II that was victorious for the USA. He overcame the States' difficulties that helped him to be reelected in 1948, so he was the President till 1953. He was against communism, therefore the Truman-principle was formed: the USA must help those countries that are jeopardized by communism, financially and with military power. The Cold War began when he was in office. He had to face growing problems and was heavily criticized. He decided not to start at the next election so the power was taken back by the republicans. He retired to Independence, held speeches for the young and travelled a lot. He didn't kept himself from politics either. He criticized the Republican Party and participated the democrats in their campaign.
He died in 26th December, 1972 and was buried in a library having his name.
