Vo Nguyen Giap

Vo Nguyen Giap, North Vietnamese general, politician, was born in 1911 in An Xa (Vietnam). He was North Vietnamese General and politician as well. He finished the National Military Academy in Hue. In 1930 he joined the Communist Party of Indochina, but he was arrested, but soon released. He finished the University of Law in Hanoi. From 1931, he was a member and one of the leaders of the Communist Party. Firstly, he was the Secretary of Interior, then the Secretary of War. He directed the military operations against the French and he was the victorious commander in Dien Bien Phu, where the North Vietnamese troops gained the final victory over the French colonizers. His popularity was rivaling with Ho Chi Minh's and was the right hand of the president. After the Geneva Agreement till 1980 he was the Deputy Minister and the Secretary of War of North Vietnam, then of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and had a great influence to the political life.

During the Second Vietnam War he got the greatest titles of the Generals. He worked out the strategies of the North Vietnamese army and led the army with success. But after 1975 he was said to be old and in the Conference of the Party in 1982 he retired for good. The reasons were not declared. In the recent year the became active in the science and techniques. He worked out the strategy of the modern guerilla warfare.
