Probus: 276 - 282 Probus was a noted general who served under Aurelian. Like his predecessor, his actions should have also merited a renowned title. The Sarmatians where utterly crushed and the Goths offered an alliance. The Franks, Burgundians and Lygians where driven out of Gaul with gross casualties and all the tribes in Germany were forced to supply to Rome troops. All traces of rebellion and discontent within where wiped out as well. Probus believed he could keep the legions under control if he kept them busy. Thus while the legions where not fighting, they where busy with manual labor. It was during one of these circumstances that soldiers rebelled and in a fit of rage killed Probus.
