This is a hand-held two-way radio apparatus. It allows quick communication and is used by Police officers, soldiers, sports enthusiasts, and workers. It transmits with less than one -tenth watt.

Messages can be transmitted and received within 1.6 k.m. Some Other walkie-talkies have bigger transmitting power [1to 4 watt ] over a distance of 3 to 6 km. Exceptionally the signals can travel hundreds of kilometers from the source. This happens when the signal skips (is reflected off the ionosphere). However, its range may be reduced by electrical devices operating nearby, and buildings.

Walkie-talkies are crystal controlled, with different frequencies. They operate generally in VHF which is a very high frequency and UHF which is an ultra high frequency .
