Communication
was greatly influenced by Christianity, church leaders could read and
write and most books dealt with
religious themes and therefore only few ordinary people could read and
write. “Scribes” who were monks, copied books by hand and decorated
them in gold and silver as well a other colours. They
used to copy for months and months and strange though as it may appear, some
of then could not read or write! News were spread by word of mouth. Town criers announced
deaths, marriages and births; and entertainers went from
town to town carrying messages.
