AREA NETWORK

A PC can gain access to a server-PC for the programs or data it requires.  But that is not all.  A PC connected to a network can enable its operator to gain access to other PCs on the network as well.  He can retrieve files from these computers as if they were on his/her own PC.

AREA NETWORK IS OF TWO TYPES:

a)     Local Area Network (LAN)

b)     Wide Area Network (WAN)

A LAN is generally limited to a single office or building.  But WAN has a wider range.  It has several LANs connected together.

The computers on a WAN can extend to an entire city or across an even larger area.  They can be connected by modems to telephone lines or satellites.
