Iit is good to recapture some  of the detail of the Jameson raid as it started just north of Mafikeng

During the New Year weekend of 1895/6 the fiasco of the Jameson Raid took place- Three hundred and fifty police and volunteers left Pitsane Potlogo, 50 km north of Mafeking, where they had been encamped for some time under Dr Jameson, and crossed the Transvaal border. They were joined at Ottoshoop by 120 men from the recently disbanded Bechuanaland Border Police who had been stationed at Mafikeng.
