The basic ideas of the brain are changing because of new discoveries. First off is a new treatment for Parkinson's disease: brain cell transplant. Also, it has been thought that brain cells are unrepairable, but scientists are starting to believe that the brain is developing new cells everyday and is able to repair itself.
A patient of Parkinson disease cannot fully control his muscles. One patient of this disease and his hands are constantly shaking. To overcome his disease, he takes a walk everyday with his wife in order to save his legs. Another patient of the same disease who is in a wheel chair, unable to walk. She can no longer control her muscles, and cannot do anything except to just sit and look at her wonderful children. She has been treated every week at home but her condition has become worse, and she is now hospitalized. However, one Parkinson's patient has recently gone through with a brain cell transplant surgery. By replacing the old cells with new brain cells, her mobility improved by about thirty percent. But by transplanting the new cells, the brain cells can once more produce dopamine, a necessary chemical for controlling body movements.
There is another new finding about the brain stem cells. This is a newly discovered cell line which is believed to produce many type of brain cells. Scientists are now trying to figure out if they can use this new information to cure diseases. Scientists found out that mouse brain stem cells find their way to the damaged part of the brain and make healthy cells to replace the damaged cells. If this is true with the human being, we can cure all kinds of diseases involving the brain.
