On April 20, 1945, Hitler celebrated his birthday. But it wasn't really a celebration. Hitler was in definate pain. Even though Berlin was being taken, Hitler decided to remain there. He was depressed, that after all his promises, he could only be counted on as a liar. Hitler was severely stressed out, putting him in very bad health. He had constant headaches, and his spine was bent in a stoop.
The attempted assassination on Hitler on July 20th didn't give him any new self-esteem either. Dr. Theodor Morell also delivered Hitler some poisonous drugs which he took everyday until his last days of the war. The drugs, his self-esteem, and the people's hatred towards him were putting him in very bad shape. On April 22, 1945, Hitler called his last conference of the year. Hitler cursed the Luftwaffe, his army officials and his country for failing him.
Both Heinrich Himmler, head of the S.S. and Goering had both commited treason. Himmler tried to surrender, while Goering tried to take over. Hitler felt that nothing remained of his great empire. On April 29, 1945, Hitler dicated his last testament. It declared that his wife and him were choosing death over disgrace. It also stated that Goering and Himmler were out of the Nazi party. It also told the rest of his party to commit suicide along with him.
Hitler married his long-secret love for 12 years, on April 29th, as a last ditch effort. He had "nothing to lose." Hitler went speadily to work on his will, and the next day, he killed his dog. He then shot himself through the mouth at 3:15 p.m. in a bunker below Berlin. His newly wed wife was found poinsoned next to him. Goebbels, a loyal Nazi member, poisoned his six children, and later he and his wife killed themselves.
On May 1, 1945, it was announced that Hitler was dead. On May 2, 1945, negotiations started for surrender. The war was over.
