USS Neal A. Scott, WWII

Hello, I am looking for anyone who may have served on this ship. My grandfather was on it in 1944 and I am looking for information on him. Maybe someone who knew him or had pictures of him. His name was William Herbert Lambert (Bill Lambert) His rate was AS. Also, anyone know what this ship, or the DE cannon class in general, main job was during the war. Thanks for any help. Dan Lambert
