: : Hi, I have just come across some family papers- I never knew my Grandfather he went down on the USS Cooper- I am trying to gather information about that ship, and or my grandfather Harrison O. Perkins, Lt. U.S.N.- he was also on the USS Beede but survived when it was sunk in Nov. 1943
: : Thankyou Sandy

: Sandy,

Sandy,
Unfortunatly I cannot help you with what you really want to know, but my first cousin (my mother's brother had the ship named after him. He went down in millitary manuevers near the coast of California in circa 1938 ( I have clippings, photos of him, etc. but I have not gotten up to look up exact info at this point)
I have a pix (faded news clipping of his wife and only son (now living in Monticello, AR) launching the USS Cooper.)

I did not know the Cooper's fate.

Cooper graduated from the US Naval Academy. He was raised by a widowed mother in Monticello. I have some of his letters to, from and about him, but I was only four when he died.

Let me know if you think I have anything that would assist you.
: My grandfather was also at the Battle of Leyte, he was aboard the USS Cooper, he was not among the survivors and presumed dead, I am trying to do some research for my fathers 65th Birthday for him as he does not know much of his father and has very few memories, he was nine at the time when they recieved the news any information or names you could forward to me so I can gather as much information as I can, would be helpful. I wish you luck as I truely understand that it is not a easy task at which you have taken on.
: thanks Melissa
