Algae Scrubber

Our Algae scrubber is attached to our 375 gallon warm water reef. A certain portion of the water is drained from the tank into a trough. The trough then turns upside down and creates a wave into a shallow tank area. Algae grows in this area and "scrubs" the nitrates out of the water. The water is then circulated back into the warm water reef. The scrubber has a high output halogen light which stays on 24 hours a day. This tank helps people to understand the chemistry of a marine tank as well as the importance of plants in a fish tank. This exhibit has been in service since 1991.
