In several thin fuel rods, which are combined into a fuel element, is the uranium-235.
Some neutrons " are shot " at the uranium atoms. Thus the atom splits into several
sections and some neutrons are set free. These split again the uranium atoms, which
again set neutrons free. This nuclear chain reaction goes on until no more
atoms are fissile. This splitting process, produces warmth and the water between the
fuel rods is heated up. The construction with water and fuel elements is called
nuclear reactor.
With the simmering water reactor the water evaporates directly between the fuel
rods.
In the pressurized water reactor the water cannot evaporate, because a very
high pressure prevails. Therefore the cooling agent is pumped by special steam
generators.
The steam arrives now over lines at the turbines, which are propelled by it
and which convert heat energy into kinetic energy. One wants to obtain as high
an efficiency as possible with the turbines, therefore are also the shovel pages of
different size. The rotating motion of the turbines propels a generator, which
produces electricity.

After the steam propelled the turbines, it comes in a condenser where after an intensive cooling it becomes water. In order to cool the recovered water still further down, it is led into a constant air flow in the cooling tower. This air flow rises from down upward and in it about 2% of the water evaporate.P
