Many people did many experiments with this new idea but there is only one worth mentioning at this time, that is a German physicist, Georg Ohm. He devised a mathematical law to explain the relationship concerning a current, voltage and resistance. His law stated that a larger voltage can push a larger current through a given resistance.

In 1820 Hans Christian Ørsted, a Danish physicist, announced his discovery that a compass needle was affected by currents in neighboring conductors.
