Electricity was first discovered by man in 500 B.C. (B.C. = Before Christ) by a Greek philosopher/astronomer named Thales. He discovered that when amber (That is a really old tree sap, I mean, older then your dad!) and fur rubbed together attracted light materials such as feathers, lint and paper, though why anybody would want their paper lint and feathers in a pile is beyond me.
This led to the belief that amber was alive, and that the attraction was the amber inhaling and exhaling. Also in 300 B.C. a philosopher called Plato wrote about these strange properties of amber.
