Protozoa
Protozoa (more than 30 000 species!!!) are eukaryotic cells; the cell is by itself an organism where various vital functions take place : They are grouped in 4 main families based on their mode of locomotion or their cell organisation. The most well-know are the plasmodium type, reponsible for paludism, the trypanosoma type, agent of disease of sleep and transmit to man by the fly Tsé-Tsé, the trichomonas type, reponsible sexually transmitted diseases or the paramecium, usually present in fresh water.
