Attacking the Philippines

The Japanese had some reasons for attacking the Philippines:

1) Setting up the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere.

2) The Philippines were important in military terms. The Americans had a large number of forces in the country as well as important air bases

3) The fertile land of luzon proved attractive to the Japanese.

4) American were the colonial rulers. The Japanese destroyed the air bases in Philippines which further crippled Americans' air power in this region.
