Hinduism is the predominant religion of India, with nearly 85% of the population adhering to the faith. Hinduism developed over about 4000 years, but has no single founder or creed like Confucianism, Taoism, or Buddhism.

Unlike Western religions, though, Hinduism has little or no organization and hierarchy within it. In this way, Hinduism is more of a philosophy. It has a vast variety of beliefs and practices that extends into daily life. The ideal way of life is called the dharma.
