Worships/Rituals

1) Nitya
Practiced Daily in homes in front of a small shrine. Offerings are made to the gods and deities

2) Naimittika
This includes all rites of passage, from birth of a child, the first haircut and prayers are offered to Sarasvati the goddess of learning before the child goes to school for the first time.

3) Rites of passage
There are a few rites of passage: marriage, pregnancy and funeral ceremonies.

 

Festivals:


Duhsehra, Durga Puja
Observed in the early autumn, is an observance of the triumph of good over evil

Rama Navami
Generally observed in springtime, to worship the god Rama

Krishan Janmashtami
The birthday of Krishna. Celebrated in late summer.

Shiva Ratri
An all night celebration of the Divine as manifested in the god Shiva. Occurs in the latter part of the winter season.
