Coach

Mr. P. L. Lau

Mr Lau is the Deputy Headmaster as well as the Department Head of Geography in Diocesan Boys' School, so he is able to help us to deal about the quesetion concerning Geography, especially those topics about rainforest, desert and grassland. Also, he had given us many valuable advice and information which make our website more informative. He helps us to find the URL of some related websites and give us some notes on those topics. Special thanks should be given to him for his continuous support to our Thinkquest Entry.

I am the leader of this group. Since I have made several homepages before, I am able to work for the layout of this homepage. Also, I am now studying Computer Studies in school, so I have a little knowledge about programming. I know HTML, Javascript and a little about Perl and CGI. Since I have some programming experience, I develop the treasure hunt game by using several ready-made scripts and edited it and created our own featured treasure hunt game. Also, I help other teammates to overcome their technical problems, because they are a bit 'new' about homepage making.

Since I have not met my teammates before these competition, we don't know each other before. After my friend's recommendation, we joined together to participate this competition. We are of different gender, so we may have different interests and opinions on choosing the topic of our homepage, but finally we came to an agreement. We finish our 3-month homepage making journey, and finally our hard work can be seen here!

Hi! I'm a 17-year-old girl in Hong Kong. Before joining the ThinkQuest, I knew nothing about homepage making. I'm interested in deserts, Egypt and scorpions as they seem to be mysterious, but my knowledge about them was limited to Form 2 (G.8) text book level. After doing some research, I discovered that what I thought was wrong: Apart from mummies, there are many types of desert peoples, looking completely different from each other, with amazing cultural histories; sandstorm does not equal to tornado and it comes quite frequently; there are amphibians in the desert!!!

Lots of " unexpected" facts came out, making me nervous and confused. As I started my work at a quite late time due to the public exam, it seemed that I needed to learn and do many things within a short time, especially for a computer idiot like me.

Thank God, the homepage is finished now!

I am a secondary school student in Hong Kong. This is my first time to join this competition and I think it's a valuable experience for me. During the ThinkQuest journey, I have learnt a lot of things. For example, I have learnt more about rain forests, grasslands and deserts. Also, I am now more familiar with the communication tools through the Internet. Moreover, I learnt how to collect information from different sources like, libraries and websites.

In building up these Web pages, most of the programming parts are left for my teammates to finish because they have experiences in this area. Thus, I mainly work on the content part, which is much more difficult to manage than I thought before. I hope this homepage can really help students to learn more about rain forests, grasslands and deserts in a more interesting way.
