aeration - to put a gas or air into a liquid under pressure

aridity - a period of time does not produce any new crops

biomass - plant and animal matter used to provide fuel or energy

canopy - the main umbrella-like top layer of a tropical rainforest, composed of the tree-tops.

deforestation - the removal of forest growth 

desiccation - to remove all the water from something

diurnal - things that are happening in the daytime or every day

dynamic - the way in which things behave, react, and affect each other

encroached - to gradually cover more and more land

fauna - all the animals living in a particular area or period in history

infestation - some insects appear in large numbers and usually cause damage

percolation - a liquid passes slowly through a material that has very small holes in it

polyculture - multiple crop growing

prone - likely to do something or suffer from something, especially something bad or harmful

props - objects that place under or against something to hold it in a position

rampant - a plant that is rampant grows and spreads uncontrollably

ranching - work on a farm that produces a particular product

repercussions - a bad result that continue to have an effect for a period of time

stilts - roots found in plants of wet areas like mangrove swamp

susceptible - easily influenced or affected by something

tillage - the activity of preparing land for growing crops
