Oedipus complex

Freud developed an owm theory dealing with sexual problems.
Freud said that children (of about two/three years old) have a sexual long for their own mother, because this is an instinct, the child cannot do anything about it.
At a certain moment the child finds out that he wants to 'posess' his mother. Therefore he becomes jealous at his father and he will begin to hate him. He gets afraid of being castrated by his father, this fair make him stop adoring his mother, although his feelings are still there. These feelings will get in the unconscious part of the brain and will afflict him. This is called the Oedipus complex.

This complex is named after Sophocles' tragedy about King Oedipus. In this tragedy king Oedipus killed, without knowing of what he was doing, his father and married his mother
