borderline personality disorder

someone with a borderline personality disorder should have at least five of the following criteria:
- frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment
- a pattern of intense, yet unstable, interpersonal relationships characterised by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation
- persistent and markedly distorted, or unstable self-image or identity
- impulsivity in at least two areas that are self damaging, such as sex, substance abuse, spending, reckless driving or binge eating
- recurrent suicidal behavior treats of such behavior or self-mutilating behavior
- chronic fealings of emptiness
- emotional instability due mainly to a marked reactivity of mood that lasts for a few hours to a few days
- lack of control over anger
- transient, stress-related, paranoid thoughts or severe dissociative symptoms (for example depersonalization)
