(strooth-ee-uh-MY-mus)
Because scientists thought this dinosaur looked like an ostrich, they called it Struthiomimus, which means "ostrich mimic." It had a short body, a long tail, and a curving neck. Its head was small, it had no teeth, and its eyes were quite large. Scientists think that it may have been fairly intelligent, compared to most other dinosaurs.
Struthioniimus probably lived on open river banks, pacing around for a juicy morsel. It n-tight have caught some of the many kinds of water life that lived in the late Cretaceous. Perhaps instead it used its strong, curved claws to tear open insect nests or eggs.
This dinosaur was a member of the family of Ornthomimus, which belonged to the broad group of "hollow-tail lizards," or coelurosaurs. Other members of the family included Dromiceiomimus, Elaphrosaurus, and Gallimimus.
