Named after Lesotho, the country in Africa where it was first discovered, Lesothosaurus was a very close relative of Fabrosaurus. It was a member of the "bird-footed" (ornithopod) family. Built for browsing and running away if attacked, the back legs were strong and had three main claws on each foot. In addition, each foot had a small claw higher up the shin. Each tiny hand had four main fingers and a tiny, stub-like thumb.

Like Fabrosaurus, Lesothosaurus was only 3 feet long and lived in the late Triassic, more than 200 million years ago. Unlike its close relative, it had narrower teeth. Its front teeth were smooth and pointed. Some scientists say the cheek teeth look like serrated arrow heads.

Small dinosaurs of this family are thought by some to have been the ancestors of almost all the "bird-foot" dinosaurs. No larger than a big dog, they survived at least 70 million years before dying out. Eventually, long before they vanished, other more powerful "bird-hips" had arrived.
