One of the dromaeosaurid (running lizard) dinosaurs like Deinonychus, but smaller. Fossil remains show it to have been about the size of a man and to have weighed approximately 100 pounds. Its tail was made stiff by rods of bone and helped keep it balanced when running fast.

Dromaeosaurus had a large head which contained a big brain. The dinosaur would have been able to balance itself on one leg with the help of its stiff tail while savagely attacking its prey with its clawed toes.

Dromaeosaurus appeared later than its relative, Deinonychus, and stalked the earth in the late Cretaceous period, about 70 million years ago. Because Dromaeosaurus was so much smaller it probably had best pickings among the tiny animal life. many small reptiles and mammals would have been attacked by this fast- moving dinosaur. Dromaeosaurus lived about the same time as velociraptor, although it appeared earlier.
