 (SEN-truh-sawr-us)

This dinosaur belonged to the family of
shortfrilled ceratopsians (horned dinosaurs). Others were the tiny Brachyceratops and the
much large Monoclonius and Pachyrhinosaurus. These were almost as big as Centrosaurus.
Like Monoclonius, Centrosaurus had a single horn on
the top of its nose that curved forward instead of back. It also had a bumpy frill with
two pieces of bone shaped like hooks. Centrosaurus had small hooves like a rhinoceros and
very thick legs. Each back leg had four stumpy toes and each front foot had five
"fingers." Centrosaurus had very strong jaw muscles to help it grind tough food.

Scientists believe Centrosaurus travelled in herds.
A single fossils find of eighteen separate animal has been discovered in Alberta. The most
famous ceratopsian dinosaur is Triceratops. They lived mostly in great herds and roamed
far and wide for root food and plants. In this way they must have been like great herds of
bison ambling across the prairie.
