In serveral ways, Camarasaurus is similar to Brachiosaurus, except it is smaller. Like all other dinosaurs (excluding Brachiosaurus), its back legs are longer than its front legs. It has nostrils on top of its neck is fairly short, and it has a deep skull and small teeth. The discovery of baby Camarasaurus fossils has helped scientists understand how dinosaurs looked as they grew up. When born they had big heads, short necks, and stubby tails. They changed as they developed.

camasaurus-size compared.GIF (24386 bytes)The brain of Camarasaurus was small compared to its body. Its nose was on top of its head, just in front of its eyes. These dinosaurs must have led a lazy, peaceful life. Their size and tough hide would not make them good prey for flesh eaters, who probably left them alone. Camarasaurus probably wandered through the swamp and forest continually munching. Its little mouth had to feed a very large body.
