Anchiceratops was on earth for only a few million years, beginning about 69 million years ago. Like all the other dinosaurs, it became extinct 66 million years ago. Anchiceratops belonged to the ceratopsian (horned dinosaur) family and was about 17 feet long.
All ceratopsians had a frill made of bone growing from the back of the head. Attached to the frill were very powerful muscles that worked its big jaws. Anchiceratops had a particularly large horn and a massive parrot beak. Three horns grew along the top of its face, two above its eyes and one on its beak.
Anclhiceratops roamed the vast plains of Canada during the Cretaceous period, when lush vegetation was plentiful. It liked to crunch tough roots and probably grazed in large herds. They did not eat meat but their tough hides would have protected them well. Only vicious flesh eaters like Tyrannosaurus Rex would have been a match for Anchiceratops.
