The House of Diana

Appian Way

The Appian Way is one of Rome's most famous roads, built in 312 BC under the direction of Appius Claudius.  It connected Rome ot the city of Capua in Campania.

Augustus

Octavian, seen here, was the adopted nephew of Julius Caesar, who took on the role of avenging his uncle's death after Caesar's assassination in 44 BC.  On January 16, 21 BC, the Senate gave him the title of Augustus, making him the first Roman emperor.

Colleseum

The Flavian Amphitheatre, or Colesseum, is Rome's most famous arena and landmark.  Utilized for spectacles of gladitorial combat between man and beast, it remains one of Rome's architectual wonders.

Villa Pool

The Latin term "villa" is used inconsistantly by Romans themselves.  In general, it meant an elaborate farm house, with living quarters for the owner.  They gradually became more extravagant, until the term became synonomous with palaces themselves.
