Pluto's surface shows dark markings. It
is probably made of ice but not water ice but ice of frozen
nitrogen. The winds may sweep away the ice in some regions,
leaving behind the dark markings. Pluto's
interior may be similar to the major icy moons. The double
planet, Pluto and Charon may be
like only one other planet in the solar system, that of the Earth
and its moon.
Pluto has an atmosphere, even though it is so far away from the sun and is vey cold there. The reason is because sometimes Pluto is closer to the sun than Neptune and the sun caused the ice to evaporate to form the atmosphere. It will continuously being produced and lost as long as Pluto is inside Neptune's orbit. The air in the atmosphere is mostly made up of nitrogen, with an addition of carbon monxide and methane. The atmosphere is similar to Neptune's moon Triton. Triton has seasons and winds but because Pluto is bigger, Pluto have clouds and storms. Charon which was near by may be taking in escaping molecules from Pluto's atmosphere. Therefore this double planet may be exchanging molecules from the atmosphere.
Charon, Pluto's moon. It was first seen on Earth in 1978. Both Pluto and Charon are in similar size and orbit each other like double planets with the same sides permanently facing each other.
